The renovation of the kitchen at the Governor’s Residence in Hartford, CT., provided an opportunity to reinfuse that space with the elegance and graciousness associated with the original 1906 National Historic Register home. The renovated space had to satisfy the dual assignments of providing an intimate focus for a family with growing children and as a staging area for catering an extensive calendar of political, social, and charity functions. The design was based on the character and quality of the existing structure, reinterpreting details as required to serve contemporary needs
